ZimChess Online Blitz Arena :Recap

From Runner-Up to Champion: Cadiac Reclaims the Crown in the ZimChess Online Blitz Series

ZIMCHESS ONLINE BLITZ SERIES | TOURNAMENT RECAP

What began as a new experiment in online chess has quickly turned into a story of competition, determination and a growing community.

The ZimChess Online Blitz Arena has now completed two editions, and within just a few days, the series has already produced a compelling rivalry at the top of the leaderboard.

The first edition saw Ambassador_craiG make history as the inaugural champion.

Five days later, Cadiac, who had finished runner-up in the opening tournament, returned to reclaim the top spot.

Two editions. Two champions. One growing story.

EDITION ONE: AMBASSADOR_CRAIG MAKES HISTORY

The inaugural ZimChess Online Blitz Arena was held on 10 August 2026, attracting 66 players to compete in a fast-paced 3+0 rated blitz arena on Lichess.

At the end of the tournament, Ambassador_craiG emerged as the first-ever champion of the series with an impressive 62 points.

Cadiac finished second with 46 points, while Trovolstaam completed the podium in third place with 45 points.

For Ambassador_craiG, it was a historic opening victory.

For Cadiac, however, the story was far from over.

FIVE DAYS LATER, THE RUNNER-UP RETURNED

The second edition took place on 15 August 2026, and the tournament showed immediate signs of growth.

Participation increased from 66 players in the first edition to 76 in the second, creating an even larger and more competitive arena.

This time, the story had a different ending.

Cadiac came back stronger and captured the second ZimChess Online Blitz title.

With 56 points, Cadiac finished at the top of the standings, five points ahead of Sex096, who scored 48 points.

Ngwenyov completed the podium with 43 points.

Behind them, XOCHE finished fourth on 40 points, while Khudu and SaMaV0dlo shared 35 points each.

For Cadiac, this was more than another tournament victory.

It was a response.

FROM SECOND PLACE TO FIRST

There was unfinished business.

In the inaugural edition, Cadiac had come close to the title but ultimately had to settle for second place behind Ambassador_craiG.

Five days later, another opportunity arrived.

This time, Cadiac delivered.

The 56-point winning performance transformed the player from the first edition's runner-up into the second edition's champion.

It is exactly the kind of progression that makes a tournament series interesting.

Players return.

The leaderboard changes.

New challengers emerge.

And every new edition creates an opportunity to rewrite what happened before.

The first edition belonged to Ambassador_craiG.

The second belonged to Cadiac.

And that contrast has already given the ZimChess Online Blitz Series its first major storyline.

A SERIES ON THE RISE

The winners are only part of the story.

The participation figures tell another important one.

First Edition — 66 Players

Second Edition — 76 Players

That is an increase of 10 players in just five days.

For a new online tournament series, the growth is an encouraging sign that the arena is beginning to establish itself as a regular meeting point for Zimbabwean chess players and enthusiasts.

Played on Lichess in the demanding 3+0 blitz format, the tournament creates an environment where speed, calculation and consistency are essential.

With three minutes on the clock and no increment, there is little room for hesitation.

A single tactical mistake can change a game.

A strong winning streak can transform a player's position on the leaderboard.

And with games coming one after another, maintaining concentration becomes just as important as individual brilliance.

That competitive pressure is part of what makes the ZimChess Online Blitz Arena so exciting.

MORE THAN JUST A TOURNAMENT

The ZimChess Online Blitz Arena was created with a broader vision than simply producing winners.

At its heart is the idea of connecting Zimbabwe through chess.

Online chess makes it possible for players from different locations, clubs, schools and backgrounds to meet across the board without needing to be in the same physical room.

A player can log in, enter the arena and immediately test themselves against opponents they might otherwise never have the opportunity to face.

Stronger players get competition.

Developing players gain experience.

Chess enthusiasts get another platform through which they can compete and interact.

The tournament is therefore becoming more than a leaderboard.

It is becoming a community.

NO PRIZES, BUT PLENTY TO PLAY FOR

Perhaps one of the most important aspects of the first two editions is that there were no prize purses waiting at the end of the tournaments.

Yet dozens of players still showed up.

They played because they wanted to compete.

They wanted to improve.

They wanted to test themselves.

They wanted to challenge other players.

And they wanted to be part of something being built for Zimbabwean chess.

That commitment deserves recognition.

Every player who entered the arena contributed to its competitive spirit.

Every person who shared the tournament, encouraged a friend to participate, followed the results, discussed the games or helped spread the word played a part in making the series possible.

The success of an initiative like this is not measured only by trophies.

It is measured by participation.

It is measured by whether people believe enough in the vision to return for another edition.

And the growth from 66 players to 76 players suggests that the community is beginning to believe.

A SINCERE APPRECIATION TO THE CHESS COMMUNITY

ZimChess extends its sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the first two editions of the ZimChess Online Blitz Arena.

To every player who entered the tournaments, thank you for trusting the vision and giving the arena its competitive spirit.

To everyone who promoted the events, shared the tournament links, encouraged other players to participate and helped create awareness, your contribution mattered.

To the players who competed without expecting prizes, thank you for showing that the love of chess and the desire to compete can be powerful motivations on their own.

And to everyone who supported the idea, offered encouragement, provided feedback or simply believed that Zimbabwean chess deserves more opportunities to compete and connect online, thank you.

Every growing project begins with people who are willing to believe in it before it becomes established.

The ZimChess Online Blitz Arena is no different.

THE STORY IS ONLY BEGINNING

Two editions have now produced two different champions.

Ambassador_craiG made history by becoming the inaugural winner.

Cadiac then returned after finishing second in the opening edition and captured the second title with 56 points.

Meanwhile, players such as Sex096, Ngwenyov, XOCHE, Trovolstaam, Khudu, SaMaV0dlo and many others have already added their names to the growing competitive story.

But the series is only getting started.

With participation increasing and more players joining the competition, the next editions could bring even stronger battles at the top of the standings.

And there is an even bigger ambition ahead.

The hope is that, with continued support and growth, future editions can develop into sponsored tournaments with meaningful prizes and greater opportunities for Zimbabwean chess players.

The vision is growing.

The community is growing.

And the possibilities are growing with it.

WHO WILL BE NEXT?

For now, Cadiac holds the crown.

But when the next arena begins, the board will be reset.

The clock will start again.

And every player will have another opportunity to write their own story.

Will Cadiac defend the title?

Will Ambassador_craiG return to reclaim the crown?

Or will another player emerge and create an entirely new chapter?

The first champion set the standard.

The runner-up returned to reclaim the crown.

Now, the next chapter is waiting to be written.

ZIMCHESS — CONNECTING ZIMBABWE THROUGH CHESS

The ZimChess Online Blitz Arena is more than a tournament series. It is an ongoing effort to create opportunities for Zimbabwean chess players to compete, connect and grow through the game.

The board is set. The clock is waiting. Who will be next?
